Google Business Profile (GBP) is important to local businesses wherever Google is important to consumers. Not only does it help you keep customers up to date with store hours and changes to your business, it’s also your best chance at ranking in local search.

Because GBP is so important, I decided it’d be a good idea to share statistics for this tool (and topics related to it) from a few different sources.

That’s why in this post, I rounded up the top statistics for GBP, Google reviews and Google Maps.

Unclaimed Google Business Profiles in the auto industry

This figure comes from a study SearchLab Digital conducted on car dealerships in the United States.

The study specifically analyzed over 1,604 Google Business Profiles located in 14 U.S. cities that rank in one of the top 20 positions for keywords like “Ford dealer,” “Toyota dealer” and “used car dealer.”

Of those 1,604 profiles, 11.1%, or 178, were unclaimed.

2. Google Business Profile pages that are complete and verified are 80% more likely to appear in searches

Impact of verifying and completing your Google Business Profile

This is a statistic Birdeye included in their 2025 study on Google Business Profile.

They list it as a reason to ensure you fill out every field for your business on Google Business Profile and get your business verified.

According to Birdeye, profiles that are fully filled out and verified receive:

  • 80% more appearances in search
  • 4 times as many website visits
  • 12% more calls
  • 10% more direction requests

3. Around 75% of businesses in one of the top three positions on Google have complete Google Business Profile descriptions

Having a complete description on Google Business Profile increases your rankings.

The impact of completed descriptions on local search rankings on Google

Localo analyzed over 2 million profiles on Google.

They discovered that businesses with higher rankings were more likely to have complete Google Business Profile descriptions:

  • Positions 1-3 – About 75% of businesses who ranked in one of these spots had complete descriptions
  • Positions 4-10 – About 65% of businesses had complete descriptions
  • Positions 11-20 – Less than 40% of businesses had complete descriptions

4. 86% of all Google Business Profile views originate from category-based searches

In Birdeye’s 2025 study on Google Business Profile, they discovered that the majority of profile views came from searches that included GBP categories.

Search queries they gave as examples include “dentist open now” and “best dog groomer.” Many searches also included a city name.

5. 48% of Google Business Profile interactions are made for a business’ website link

Links that receive the most customer interactions on Google

Birdeye’s study revealed that the majority of interactions with business profiles on Google are done with the “Website” link (48%) while another good portion are done with Google’s “Directions” link (34%).

A smaller portion of interactions are done for the “Call” link (17%).

All other interactions are listed as “Others” and account for the remaining 2% of interactions.

These are averages across all industries. In the healthcare industry, the majority of clicks went to the Directions (38%) and Call (36%) links.

In the retail industry, the vast majority of clicks went to the Website link (57%) while fewer clicks went to the Website (30%) and Call (13%) links.

6. More than 85% of businesses in one of the top three positions of Google have websites added to their profiles

Localo discovered a direct correlation between Google rankings and the presence of a website associated with your Google Business Profile:

  • Positions 1-3 – More than 85% of businesses who rank in one of these positions have URLs added to their profiles
  • Positions 4-10 – Over 80% of businesses have URLs added to their profiles
  • Positions 11-20 – Fewer than 80% of businesses have URLs added to their profiles

7. Businesses in one of the top three positions on Google have more than 250 images in their Google Business Profiles

How images impact local search rankings on Google

Localo’s study of over 2 million Google Business Profiles revealed that businesses with higher rankings usually have many more images in their profiles than businesses with lower rankings.

  • Positions 1-3 – Businesses that rank in one of these positions have over 250 images in their profiles
  • Positions 4-10 – Less than 200 images
  • Positions 11-20 – Around 170 images

8. Verified businesses that have more than 15 photos uploaded to their Google Business Profile accounts receive more interactions

According to Birdeye’s study on GBP, verified profiles that have at least 15 photos receive more website visits, direction requests and calls from customers.

9. Only 23% of attorneys include the words “lawyer” or “attorney” in their Google Business Profile titles

A survey conducted by Rankings.io revealed that only 22.7% of attorneys actually include the words “lawyer” or “attorney” in their titles on Google Business Profile.

Furthermore, only 5.3% attorneys surveyed use the words “car accident” or “personal injury” in their titles.

10. 41% of personal injury attorneys are missing descriptions on Google Business Profile

Rankings.io’s survey also revealed that almost half of personal injury attorneys, or 41%, don’t have descriptions on Google Business Profile at all.

43.6% used the words “lawyer,” “attorney,” “car accident” or “personal injury” in their descriptions, meaning descriptions are, at least, given a little more attention than titles are.

11. 83% of consumers primarily read reviews on Google

As I reported in my article on online review statistics, BrightLocal discovered in their latest Local Consumer Review survey that 83% of consumers primarily read reviews on Google.

BrightLocal conducts this survey every year. This particular figure was reported in their 2025 edition of the survey.

It was 81% in the 2024 edition and 87% in the 2023 edition.

When Localo analyzed over 2 million Google Business Profiles, they discovered that businesses that rank higher in local search often have many more reviews on Google than businesses who rank lower.

  • Positions 1-3 – Businesses that rank in one of these positions usually have around 240 reviews on Google
  • Positions 4-10 – Around 170 reviews
  • Positions 11-20 – Around 150 reviews

13. One new Google review leads to 80 additional website visits

The impact of one Google review

In Birdeye’s 2025 study of Google Business Profile, they mentioned that each additional review your business receives results in 80 additional website visits, 63 direction requests and 16 calls.

14. Businesses located within 12.3 miles of a city’s center will rank better on Google

SearchLab Digital’s study of car dealerships located in the United States revealed that businesses whose locations are within 12.3 miles of what Google’s calculations consider to be a city’s center (or centroid) tend to rank better.

15. Less than 5% of businesses have Reserve with Google activated

Birdeye discovered that fewer than 5% of businesses have Google’s reservation feature activated for their GBP accounts.

Reserve with Google is a service Google offers where consumers can make reservations with businesses through Google Maps.

The software giant partners with dozens of booking tools around the world. Yet, few businesses use the service. Surprisingly, adoption rates are lowest among the beauty and wellness and hospitality industries.

In Birdeye’s sample pool, only 13 beauty and wellness and 13 hospitality businesses had the service activated for their accounts.

Adoption was highest among finance (293) and healthcare (138) businesses.
